This news is almost a month old, however, I am looking at this site for the 2nd time and felt compelled to share. On April 24th, FOTC appeared at Amoeba Records on Sunset. Not only did they play a set for a packed store, but they stayed for HOURS(!) and signed autographs and met their fans. I have spent years in the concert business (working for promoters) and have seen a lot of artists with their fans. I have never ever seen anyone as genuinely kind, down to earth and understanding as Bret & Jemaine. The after show signings were really dragging on. Bret tugged at my heart when he had to rest his head on his arm while he was still signing items for the huge line of fans. The mom in me kicked in; I wanted to take him home, feed him and tuck him in. When they announced they were going to have to close the signing off at 10:30 pm, the fans at the back of the line were just groaning and shouting for them to quit hugging everyone and move the line.
I had my own drama about to unfold, going into a surgery just a couple of days later, and frightened by the process. My turn finally came just before 10:30. I didn’t say much, just a thank you for staying and signing. Bret looked so wiped out.
Then I thought: what if this is it for me?…the hell with it! I asked Jemaine if I could give him a motherly hug. Much to the (audible) dismay to the end of the line, he stood up and gave me a hug. Bret gave me actual art work, which is now framed and something I see every morning. This is all after performing, then taking about 2 minutes break, then parking themselves at a table and greeting and signing about 1000 articles put before them. I was at the front of the store while they were trying to close up. It was now well past 10:30 cut off. One of the Amoeba people told the guy at the door that Bret & Jemaine decided to make sure everyone got to go through the line. I left around 11:00 pm and they were still signing and showing their fans incredible kindness and patience. For me, I was quite emotional after the experience. It’s very touching to witness how they have brought such happiness to so many through their wonderful creativity, genuine empathy and generosity. If you see the comments on My Space, it’s all there - everywhere. This, apparently, is REALLY who they are.
    We are so lucky.
