Thanks to Leah for sending this report of the Largo show!

I saw F o The C last night at this tiny dinner club on Fairfax in L.A. The doors were to open at 8:00 and we didn’t have reservations so we got there around 7:15. There were about 20 people already lined up! I thought 45 minutes would be more than enough time. Apparently I misjudged the enormous drawing power of New Zealand’s Fourth Most Popular Folk Parody Duo. A mistake I won’t make again.
Fortunately we got in but I estimate about 30 people that got there too late were turned away. It was standing room only when they finally let the “non-reserved” in, but there were couple of reserved tables that people hadn’t shown up for. I asked the doorman if we could have one and he gave it to us! So the evening started very well.
The show was great. The venue was super small. Not a bad seat in the house. The host was marginally funny. Then there were a couple of openers.
At about 10:30 Jemaine and Bret came out and did 5 or 6 songs. They opened with “Beautiful Woman” which I hadn’t heard before and there was a hilarious bit with Bret using his guitar as a bongo and Jemaine showing him the “right way” to do it. Bret set up a drum kit for one of the songs. Frankly I can’t remember the title. I was several Guinnesses in by then.
I laughed so hard my stomach was sore this morning. One of the highlights was Jemaine performimg a song he had written for Bret to ease Bret’s “Body Self-Consciousness” that he was experiencing, visiting L.A. The song got a little “Brokeback”. And then there was a “review” of the lyrics after the song where they discussed the propriety of some of the lines and whether or not Bret had been violated. I almost fell out of my chair.
They closed with “Jenny” which the crowd totally got into. Then they were gone. It went by way too fast. They came out and mingled after the show. Fortunately my pushy friend was with me and got them to take a picture because I was way too nervous to ask. I’m afraid I was a complete jackass, stuttering and blathering and such but they were very nice about it. They’re playing again on Monday and I’ll definitely be there.
Sorry this wasn’t the most fascinating review. But there’s a picture! (I’m the ridiculously excited nerd in the middle.)
They’re ridiculously excited to be taking a picture with me too. They just hide it better…
I personally thought that was a great review. Thank you again Leah!
