Dave Reports from Yard Dog Gallery Show

Thank you Dave for this great write-up and fantastic photo! One of my favorites anyway..

I saw the guys on Wednesday at The Yard Dog Folk Art Gallery during South by South West, Austin’s huge music Festival. At first the guys couldn’t get the equipment to cooperate, telling rowdy fans to shut up so they could hear :-). When the guys got off stage so the other band could play and the Conchords got off stage I got to meet Jemaine. I was happy to find out how down to earth Jemaine is when he was talking to me, thats what’s great about SxSW the bands aren’t real big time so they’re cool to talk to, especially Jemaine, who I shared a laugh with when springing a photograph on him. When the guys finally got on stage they were a riot. They started off with a song called “Beautiful” or “Beautiful Women”, I can’t remember, next was the Guy’s prediction of the future Year 2000 with “The Humans are Dead”, and finally finished with a request of “Business Time” which had added humor when Jemaine was supposed to say “You lean over and say something sexy like, i think i’ll go to bed I got work in the morning” and instead said “You lean over and say something sexy like, i think i’ll go to work” followed by a short pause and a crowd laugh, but the ever cool Jemaine recovered saying “in the morning” giving everyone a great laugh. All in all the guys rocked the “tent”, creating new fans in the people who had never heard of them, and delighting old fans with their awesome folkness.
